Senate vote passes amended bill that eliminates one of the tolls on the NH turnpike system in Merrimack
CONCORD, N.H. (AP) - A push to eliminate the tolls on the New Hampshire turnpike system through Merrimack is moving forward.
The Senate voted Thursday to pass an amended version of Senate President Peter Bragdon's bill that eliminates just one of the Merrimack tolls.
Bragdon said the issue is fairness and Merrimack residents were disproportionately burdened having three tolls. Supporters added that another of the area tolls will make more money now that people are going to an outlet mall there.
Sen. Lou D'Allesarndro, of Manchester, warned that eliminating the toll could hurt the turnpike system's stellar bond rating and urged his colleagues to look for another way to increase the fairness of turnpike tolls.
