Block Grants Go To 5 Cities and Towns and 1 County

Coos County and 5 cities and towns were awarded Community Development Grants to help make improvements to housing and water systems

CONCORD, N.H. (AP) - Coos County and five cities and towns will receive $2.5 million in Community Development Block Grants to make improvements to housing and water systems.

The New Hampshire Community Development Finance Authority announced the awards Thursday.

Berlin will receive $500,000 to convert a vacant school into senior housing. Another $470,000 was earmarked to rehabilitate the Brookside Park apartments in that city.

Northumberland will get $500,000 to rehabilitate a housing complex for the elderly and disabled.

Belmont and Alstead will be given grants to upgrade their towns’ water systems.

Franklin will get just over $400,000 to move a cluster of social services to the Bessie Rowell School.

The grants are subject to approval by the Executive Council.
